DBT Credentialing Checklist

The final component of the Australian DBT Institute's DBT Practitioner training is credentialing in DBT. Our approach ensures that participants do not rush credentialing with our credentialing sessions open from late October each year with participants having up to 24 months to complete their credentialing!
  • Complete your DBT Practitioner Training with the Australian DBT Institute in person or online!
  • Ensure you meet the criteria for credentialing listed below!
  • Have your service or case study presentation prepared and then sent to the Australian DBT Institute at cpd@dbtinstitute.com.au

Credentialed DBT Practitioner Criteria

  • Professional Membership: Credentialed DBT practitioners are members of an incorporated association of a helping profession (eg. Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Psychotherapy, Counselling)
  • Clinical Experience: Credentialed DBT Practitioners have at least 200 hours of person-to-person psychotherapy/counselling experience and 50 hours of supervision relating to a minimum of 200 hours of client contact.
  • DBT Practitioner Training: Completion of the Australian DBT Institute's recognised specialist post registration course in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) over a minimum 12 month period
  • DBT Credentialing Session: DBT Practitioners are required to have completed a clinical presentation to an Australian DBT Institute faculty outlining the theoretical perspective, experiences, self-awareness, knowledge & understanding and reasons for their interest in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Additionally, practitioners are expected to have proficiency in at least two other therapeutic approaches to complement their applications of DBT!

Credentialing is the process of establishing the qualifications of licensed professionals, organisational members or organisations, and assessing their background and legitimacy. Many health care institutions and provider networks conduct their own credentialing, generally through a credentialing specialist or electronic service, with review by a credentialing committee.
